In a bid to regain viability, Ford is bringing the Transit Connect van over from Europe this summer and the model proved to be a hit at the 2009 New York International Auto Show. With boxy, futuristic lines and tons of interior tech amenities, Ford has dubbed this one “Family One.”

Parents may well flutter and faint over the clear plastic partition between the first and second rows. Kids in the car and quiet? Listen to your music not theirs? Is such a thing even possible? There’s a Radio Frequency Identification Tag system to keep track of all your stuff, a built-in hand sanitizer, sunscreen pumps, and backpack holders on the back of the seats — even a proposed iPod app to control key systems.

The “naked” commercial model will arrive first for $21,475 (customizable for two to four people) soon to be followed by the family, tricked out version. This one could re-define the family mini van and christen that workhorse genre with a heretofore elusive dash of cool.
