Chevrolet’s New Spokesperson: Tim Allen
Friday, September 3rd, 2010
LeftLane News has some great gossip from the folks at GM: there’s a new official “voice of Chevrolet” effective early next week, and it’s the actor and comedian Tim Allen.
Beginning on Tuesday, September 7th, the automaker will run the first U.S. television spots for its Chevrolet Cruze. There are four 30-second spots which were developed by Goodby, Silverstein and Partners, and will comprise the initial launch, with greater ad-presence later this fall, once the Cruze arrives at dealerships and is more accessible to consumers.
Why choose Allen? Joel Ewanick, GM’s vice president of U.S. marketing explained in a statement to the press, “Tim Allen brings the right combination of a recognizable voice with the credibility, likeability and humor that will connect with viewers. His passion for all things cars makes him the perfect match for the Chevrolet brand.”
The relationship between the actor/comedian and the automaker is not new. Allen was featured in several print articles in the late 1990s and early 2000s during his attempt to start his own firm to customize cars like the Chevrolet Impala SS and Cadillac DTS.
In a statement, Debbie Crispin, owner of Bill Crispin Chevrolet in Saline, Michigan said, “Everyone knows Tim Allen is a ‘car guy’ with Michigan roots. What a great voice for Chevrolet.”
Tim Allen grew up in Michigan, though he wasn’t born there, and can be heard in the state’s “Pure Michigan” TV ad campaign.
